MILITARY CABINET

FORMED IN GREECE FOLLOWING ON DEATH OF PREMIER. KING GEORGE TO PRESIDE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON. April 19. The death was announced yesterday of M. Alexandre Korizis, the Greek Minister, who died suddenly yesterday afternoon. Before succeeding General Metaxas as Prime Minister last January, he was Governor of the National Bank of Greece.

King George of the Hellenes today entrusted M. Constantin Codzias with the task of forming the new Government, but he informed the king that in his opinion the Cabinet should be a military one. for which reason the king has assumed the presidency, with General Mazarakis, a former Wai - Minister, as his deputy. The announcement of the death of M. Korizis has been received with deep regret in Britain. It is understood that official messages of condolence already have been dispatched to Athens from London, where it is keenly appreciated that M. Korizis carried out the far-sighted policy of his predecssor. General Metaxas, under the wise guidance of King George of the Hellenes.

The Foreign Secretary, Mr Eden, today saw the Greek Minister to London and conveyed to him the condolences of the British Government. The Consul for Greece in New Zealand, Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, has sent the following cable to the Minister for Foreign Affairs at Athens: “Greeks in New Zealand wish me to express to you their sympathy in the death of your Prime Minister.”
