TWO ENEMY SHIPS
SUNK BV BRITISH PLANES OFF FRENCH & DUTCH COASTS. ESCORTING MESSERSCHMITT DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 20. Coastal Command aircraft attacked the clocks at the German naval base at Brest and enemy shipping. Direct hits were scored on two enemy supply ships off the French and Dutch coasts. One vessel of 5000 tons was sunk and another of 7000 tons heeled over at an angle of 35 degrees and must have become a total loss. One escorting Messerschmitt was badly damaged and a number of other enemy ships in convoy were bombed and machine-gunned. All the British machines engaged returned safely.
A Polish pilot shot down an enemy fighter in the Channel. One British, fighter is missing.
