STATE FORESTS

SANCTUARIES FOR BIRD LIFE. SHOOTING OF DUCKS AND SHAGS NOT ALLOWED. Without special permission it is not lawful to shoot either ducks or shags in State forests. A ruling obtained from the State Forest Department states: —■ “Regarding duck shooting in State forests, hunters are not permitted to use guns of any sort without permission, as the forests are viewed as sanctuaries. No person has the right to take shot guns or small rifles into State forests for the purpose of shag shooting, as a special permit would be necessary, and unless there were special circumstances this would not be readily given. “Without special permission .therefore, it is not in order to: (a) Shoot ducks or shags in a State forest: <b) take shot guns or small calibre rifles into a State forest."
