Mr S. G. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, left Wellington last night for the South Island. Mr C. H. Vincent, of the Bank of New Zealand. Pahiatua, has left to take up the position of assistant manager of the Christchurch branch. The Hon H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Education, will leave Wellington tomorrow night for the Bay of Plenty district on educational business. He will be absent from Wellington for about a week. The Hon D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Supply, will take the place of the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon P. Fraser, in the War Cabinet during the absence of the latter from New Zealand on his visit to the United Kingdom.
The Rt Hon P. Fraser, Prime Minister, will leave Wellington tomorrow night for Rotorua, where he is to open on Tuesday the new Native school in Whakarewarewa. This school was started during Mr Fraser’s term as Minister of Education.
A well-known Westshore (Napier) resident, Mr Albert David Watson, has died at the age of 59 years. Mr Watson was born in Newtown, Sydney, and came to New Zealand at the age of 21, first settling in Wanganui. He then came to Napier and resided in Port Ahuriri and later in Westshore. He served with the New Zealand forces in the Great War. Mr J. A. Wellington, who has been in the employ of the W.F.C.A. Ltd., Masterton, for many years has been transferred to the firm’s Dannevirke branch, as accountant. On Thursday members of the staff assembled to honour Mr Wellington. In making him a presentation on behalf of the staff, the General Manager, Mr J. H. Cunningham, wished Mr Wellington every success in his new sphere and expressed regret that the office was losing a man of his capabilities. Mr Cunningham also referred to the popularity and esteem in which Mr Wellington was held by the staff.
