WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

OPAKI MEETING WINNERS OF COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Opaki Women's Institute was held at "Oaklea,” Opaki, the home of Mrs Harris. Mrs Beetham presided over a good attendance of members. SeVeral visitors were also present. Delegates to the district Federation meeting were appointed, Miss Robinson to vote and Miss lorns to report. Mrs Wingate referred to the Red Cross Society affairs and Miss lorns to the recent carnival.

A very interesting demonstration on the making of paper flowers was given by Mrs Mannell who also had on exhibition beautiful articles made from shells, fish scales and beads. She was warmly thanked by the president for her demonstration.

A flower naming competition was won by Mrs V. Buick. The monthly competitions, judged by the visitors resulted: —Jelly: Mrs Beetham 1, Mrs Jaine 2, Mrs Harris 3. Child's garment: Mrs Harris 1. Mrs Cooper 2, Miss lorns 3. Best bloom: Mrs Rayner 1, Mrs Buick 2. Mrs Malmo 3.

The May meeting will be held at the home of Mrs Norman Wyeth, when the competitions will be: Shortbread, two-year-old girl's warm petticoat, and best bloom. The roll call will be a specimen programme for one month's meeting. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
