GUN DOG TRIALS

WAIRARAPA CLUB COMING WEEKEND OUTING. AT MR H. NEE’S PROPERTY. The Wairarapa Gun Dog Club will conduct gun dog trials on Sunday next at the property of Mr H. Nee, Opaki Road. The competitions will commence at 9 a.m„ and a comprehensive programme provides for land and water events for Pointers and Setters. Spaniels and Retrievers of all descriptions. Classes are included for puppies and novice performers, and the trophy list has been attractively drawn up. The officials conducting the trials are as follows:—Judges: Open events and retriever, Mr W. Harding; Pointer and Setter, Mr W. H. Trengrove (Featherston); Spaniel events, limits and puppy events (to be appointed); club captain, Mr R. V. Mason; call steward, Mr J. Bouzaid; official guns, Messrs C. E. Grey, Don Andrews, W. H. Saunders, and D. S. McKenzie; bird stewards, Messrs W. O. Wilton and H. J. S. Smith; judges’ stewards, Messrs A. Mclvor and M. Condon; hon treasurer, Mr D. P. Donald; hon secretary, Mr M. A. Rawlins.

A full day will be required with nine events to be decided, and the land competitions will be taken first, with the water events in the afternoon. Light luncheon and afternoon tea will be obtainable on the grounds, and favoured by good weather a large gathering of those interested in gun dogs in action should be present. With the shooting season almost round again, interest has been quickened in the gun dog sport. Entries are expected to be strong locally and a contingent of Lower Hutt and Wellington dogs is assured. .

With the departure for camp recently of Mr Jack Curtin, the club will not have the services of an able and popular' official. At a later date the Wairarapa Gun Dog Club will take the opportunity of paying tribute to Mr Curtin for his past services, both as a stalwart supporter of’ the sport’s administration and as a competitor.
