Mr H. J. S. Rickard, Wellington, has been appointed a member of the Stock Remedies Registration Board. Mr A. J. McCurdy announced yesterday that he would not be a candidate for the mayoralty of Upper Hutt, but would be a candidate for the borough council. The Rev. A. R. Penn, who has been in the Wellington East circuit of the Methodist Church for three years, finished his services in the circuit on April C. The new minister, the Rev. R. Thornley, will take up his duties next Sunday.
The Principal of Wairarapa College, Mr G. G. Hancox, and three members of the teaching staff, Messrs J. H. Conly, H. P. Glen and W. Ball, who have all been absent for some months on military duties, have resumed teaching at the College.
Mr F. H. S. Ibbetson, formerly of Masterton, who had been chief clerk of the Public Works Department in Dunedin for the past twelve years, recently retired on superannuation after having been 40 years in the Government service. After a short business career with private firms, he joined the Wellington District Office of the Roads Department on March 25, 1901, this department being absorbed by the Public Works Department in 1908. Prior to the severance of his connection with the Dunedin office he was farewelled by members of the staff. The Otago and Southland employees of the department made Mr Ibbetson a presentation of a wristlet watch and a framed farewell letter signed by every member of the staff. A tribute to Mr Ibbetson’s valuable service to the department was paid by Mr G. Knapp, of the head office, Wellington, who specially came to Dunedin to make a presentation to Mr Ibbetson from the head office.
