EXCELLENT RESPONSE

POPPY DAY APPEAL IN MASTERTON. SALES MOST SATISFACTORY. “The response is excellent. Sales so far are well up to the usual high level for which the town is noted,” commented the Mayoress of Masterton, Mrs T. Jordan, this morning, on the progress of today's Poppy Day appeal. The proceeds will be allocated towards the relief of distress among ex-servicemen in the Wairarapa. From an early hour this morning an energetic committee, headed by Mrs Jordan, thoroughly canvassed business houses in town. The residential area is alos being canvassed. Collectors have met with a ready response, and in many cases the minimum purchase price of Is per poppy has been greatly exceeded.
