In order to avoid anything in the nature of a clash with the Hawke's Bay-Wairarapa representative football match which will be played at McLean Park, Napier, on King’s Day, June 2, the Napier Park Racing Club has decided to advance its programme by an hour. This means that the first race on the card, the Moteo Hack Hurdles, will begin at 11 a.m. and that the last race will commence at 2.45 p.m., thus allowing patrons to attend both gatherings.
Riverton Cup. A gelding named Victory is credited with having won the Riverton Cup four years in succession, between 1889 and 1892. In those days, however, the race was styled the Riverton Handicap, and the stake was only £3O. Similarly, during the same period. Patchwork and Aparima are shown in the records as winners of two Great Westerns, but the name of the race was the Open Steeplechase, and the prize money £35. Nobody in those times could have envisaged that a town with fewer than 1000 inhabitants would one day have a Cup worth £6OO and a Steeplechase worth £5OO. In Victory's term the prize money for the day totalled £145, compared with £2450 this year. Substantial Offer for Duvach, It is reported that a substantial offer, running into four figures, has been refused for the Foxbridge filly Duvach. In 17 starts Duvach has won seven times and has been placed seven times.
