HOCKEY

WAIRARAPA MEN. ANNUAL REPORT OF ASSOCIATION. The annual report of the Wairarapa Men’s Hockey Association, which is signed by Mr G. Hayne (president), states, inter alia: —“The 1940 men’s hockey season must be considered fairly satisfactory for although the senior teams were lacking in numbers the junior teams were particularly strong and produced hockey of a standard that promises well for the future. The usual principal attraction of the year, the King’s Birthday tournament was not held. This was a blow to hockey, for the tournament stimulates the players and always adds considerably to the financial side. A severe loss to hockey is the departure for. overseas of Mr Roy Foster. For years he has been one of the principal supporters of Wairarapa hockey, and he carries with him the good wishes of all.” Congratulations are extended Io those teams which were successful in the competitions last season.
