INCREASING TOLL
TAKEN OF NIGHT BOMBERS IN BRITAIN MARCH RECORD ALREADY PASSED. CASUALTIES IN LATEST RAIDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.20 a.m.) LONDON, April 16. Filty-six night raiders have been destroyed over Britain so far in April, nine more than in the whole of March, which was a record month. Eight German bombers were shot down last night, six by R.A.F. fighters and two by anti-aircraft guns. A number of people were killed or injured in the Liverpool raid last night, mostly in poor districts. Eight persons were killed when two houses were demolished. The Auxiliary Fire Service prevented the fire from reaching serious dimensions. Raiders bombed a south coast town and wrecked many houses including that of a doctor, who was out on duty. His wife and child were buried under debris, but were later rescued.
Persons buried under debris in a West of Scotland town owe their rescue to the squawks of a parrot, which attracted rescuers. Two German airmen were found dead in a scrap metal yard in a South of England town after a Heinkel had crashed. Two others surrendered to civilians.
