ATTACKS ON BRITAIN
AND NORTHERN IRELAND TOLL TAKEN OF ENEMY NIGHT BOMBERS. FIFTY-EIGHT DESTROYED THIS MONTH. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 16. The destruction of eight enemy bombers during raids on Britain was reported last night, bringing the total to 58 night bombers destroyed this month. This number already exceeds the record number destroyed in March. Night fighters accounted last night for six, and anti-aircraft gun fire for the other two. The leader of a successful night-flying squadron destroyed three of the enemy planes lost on Tuesday night, and brought his total of night raiders to ten. Last night German raids over Britain were widespread, and resulted in considerable damage. The number of casualties is believed to be small. Nor- . them Ireland bore the brunt of Tuesday night’s attack, which was most severe in Belfast. High explosive and incendiary bombs were dropped at random. Hundreds of working class houses were wrecked. Industrial plants and shops were damaged. It is feared that the casualties were heavy, many of them fatal.
