A NEED THAT CONTINUES.

ALTHOUGH another war is now being fought which makes heavy demands of many kinds on. the community, nothing should be allowed to make us forget the debt) we owe to our soldiers of the last war. In spite of all the calls that have been made of late on public generosity, it may be hoped that there will be again, as in past years, a ready and liberal response to the appeal that is to be made by the R.S.A. on Poppy Day for funds with which to relieve the necessities of returned soldiers and their dependants.

The R.S.A. bears witness to the fact that, apart from the provision made by the State for returned soldiers and their dependants in the way of pensions, cases of necessity arise in which severe and unmerited, hardship would be entailed were it not for the relief afforded from the Poppy Fund. Assistance is rendered by the R.S.A. with sympathy and understanding and the amount of good done in this way is out of all proportion to any little sacrifice made by those who subscribe to the Poppy Fund. The buying of a poppy, to be worn on Anzac Day, is not only a means of giving help that is needed, and well merited, but. is an expression of the gratitude we all owe to those who fought and suffered for their country in the Great War. Tt is in its small way a practical and tangible recognition of a debt that can never be forgotten.
