COSY THEATRE

“LAMBETH WALK.” The outstanding musical comedy will be screened finally tonight. “SANDY GETS HER MAN.” Fulfilling the promise of her earlier pictures, Baby Sandy romps through her most hilarious role to date as the star of Universal’s new comedy film, “Sandy Gets Her Man,” which opens tomorrow at the Cosy Theatre. Presented in a story which blends comedy with fast action and suspense, the child star has expert support from a handpicked cast of favourites. Stuart Erwin portrays the fireman who turns Romeo to hold his job. Una Merkel plays Sandy’s mother and William Frawley is seen as the worried police captain.

Columbia’s “North of Shanghai” brings the present Orient war into flaming life as one of the better action dramas of the year, “North of Shanghai” co-features James Craig and Betty Furness, as a newsreel photographer and a newspaper correspondent respectively. Set in the war-torn Chinese city, “North of Shanghai” tells a thrilling story of a nest of spies unearthed by the intrepid newshawks while “covering” the war. Spectacular battlefield action is a highlight of the new film, according tp advance reports, which also state that most exciting sequences are those scenes behind the lines. In Shanghai itself, the alien agents plot death and destruction. Their climatic efforts to expose the city to aerial attack are foiled by the two Americans who stage a fake bomb raid with the aid of the most powerful of the secret Tongs. The supporting cast in “North of Shanghai” is headed by Keyc Luke, Dick Curtis, Joseph Downing, Honorable Wu, Cy Kendall, Richard Loo, John Tyrrell, Lotus Lieu and Dorothy Gulliver.
