LITTLE BOY’S FATE. TRAGEDY AT WHAKATANE. . (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WHAKATANE. April 15. Cedric Barry Coull, aged four, sor of Mrs Gertrude Coull. was burnt tr death last night when a house ir Evers Road, Whakatane, was destroyed by fire. The child had been carried to safety by an uncle, Mr P. A. Hammond, ir whose charge he had been left while the rest of the household attended r theatre, but he followed his uncle indoors as Mr Hammond was rescuing a second boy. His presence in the house was not realised till cries were heard, when it was too late to save him.

A. long delay in notifying the Whakatane Fire Brigade resulted in the flames having a strong grip of the house, which was totally destroyed. Insurances on the house are not available.
