TURKISH POLICY
APPROVED IN BRITAIN LOYALTY TO ALLIANCE APPRECIATED. CLOSE GUARD ON FRONTIERS & BLACK SEA. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 14. The Turkish attitude toward developments in the Balkans is fully appreciated in London. There is confirmation here of a statement by a member of the Turkish Parliament on Saturday that Turkey's continued policy of watching her frontiers with the greatest vigilance, of standing guardian over the gateway to the Black Sea, and of remaining absolutely loyal to the AngloTurkish alliance has the fullest approval of the British Government.
ARDENT COURTSHIP NAZIS WOOING TURKEY. LONDON, April 14. Various signs indicate that Germany will sooner or later turn her attention to Turkey, says the Ankara correspondent of “The Times.” Germany, concealing her mailed fist within a velvet glove, is paying ardent courtship to Turkey. The Ambassador, Herr von Papen, is going about saying in the most suave manner that Turkey may expect nothing but kindness from Germany. The Turks take all these demonstrations for what they are worth, and are not relaxing their watchfulness. The "Daily Mail’s” Istanbul correspondent says elaborate German attempts to placate Turkish uneasiness can be traced to unmistakeable signs of Turkey’s increasing preparation for war. A hundred thousand persons have already been evacuated'from Turkish Thrace.
