Mrs B. Waddington, Napier, has been spending a few days with Mrs E. G. Norman, Cole Street, Masterton.

Mrs Owen Jones, Essex Street, Masterton, has returned from - a holiday spent in Napier. Miss Dorothy Reese, Hamilton, who has been the guest of Mrs R. Latham, Miriam. Street, Masterton, has returned to her home.

Mr and Mrs C. Woods, Waipawa, who have been spending Easter with Mrs Woods, Senr., Albert Street, Masterton, have returned home. Miss Isa Vincent, of Masterton, spent Easter in Wellington, being the guest of Mrs H. Merrall, Seatoun heights.

In the annual report of the Wairarapa Men’s Hockey Association thanks are extended to Mesdames Hayne, Fisher, and Worsfold for their hospitality during last season. The friends of Mrs W. Batty, of Masterton, will regret to learn of the death of her mother, Mrs Mary Scarlett, which occurred yesterday at Arapito, Karemea.

The death occurred at Dunedin yesterday afternoon of Mrs Martin, mother of Mrs J. Dwyer, of Albert Street, Masterton, to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended.

Gracie Fields, the noted film star, is expected back in London from Canada in May. She gave this promise in a letter to a life-long friend, Mrs Bertha Schofield, of Rochdale, Grade’s Field’s native town. “Gracie Fields is definitely coming home,” said Mrs Schofield. “In the letter she says she will be here in six weeks, but she does not mention the method of travel. “Her concerts in Canada have raised more than £50,000 for war charities. That’s better than singing in England for nothing. She is well again.”
