CHIEF EVENT TO LAMBOURN SPRINT GOES TO MINORITY. INCREASE IN TOTALISATOR TURNOVER. (Special Reporter.) In brilliant sunshine and with a fast » track the Wairarapa Racing Club’s Easter meeting was opened on Saturday and attracted a large crowd. Some ■excellent racing was witnessed. The major event was won by Lambourn, while Miss Phaleron proved to be the best in the Nursery Handicap. The totalisator handled £16,978 10s, as against £13,568 last year, an increase of £3410. A regrettable incident of the day’s racing was the breaking down of Mr J. Payton’s Counter, which on examination proved to have seriously injured a shoulder, and had to be destroyed. Results in detail are as follow:—

MAIDEN PLATE, of £l4O (all 8.7) Six furlongs.
