PLACE PREVIOUSLY EVACUATED

Fighting in Progress Near Solium AND IN THE TOBRUK AREA BRITISH FORCES NOT ISOLATED (Ey Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received This Day. Noon.) CAIRO, April 30. A German and Italian mechanised column yesterday occupied Bardia, after a detour round Tobruk. The British had previously evacuated Bardia. Fighting is now proceeding near Solium. Fighting is going on in the Tobruk area, where the British forces, it is believed are not surrounded and isolated. It is possible for mechanised columns to make contact with them across the desert. It is believed that the German mechanised units are receiving petrol supplies by air. More British troops are daily becoming available in the Western Desert. The situation from the viewpoint of manpower is considerably better than it was a week ago.
