R.A.F. Taking Heavy Toll of Enemy NAZIS REPORTED TO HAVE REACHED MONASTIR HUNGARY JOINS IN ATTACK ON YUGOSLAVIA British and. Germans forces in Greece have made contact for the first time, the 8.8. C. states. R.A.F. bombers continue to make fierce attacks on German troops, tanks and supplies. The Germans have again raided Belgrade and Hungarian troops are now taking part in the invasion of Yugoslavia. The British communique announcing that contact had been established between the British and German forces stated that the situation in Eastern Macedonia is obscure, but that it was characterised by a brilliant resistance by the Greeks. It is reported that the Germans have reached Monastir, in Southern Yugoslavia. Yugoslav resistance in that part of the country is stated to be stiffening. An R.A.F. communique reports that throughout Thursday enemy forces in Northern Greece and Southern Y ugoslavia were harassed by repeated bombing and machine-gun attacks. Enemy armed columns near Monastir were heavily bombed and a large number of tanks received direct hits. A railway station was attacked and a petrol dump was set on fire. Heavy casualties were caused to enemy troops. All the British planes returned. Agency reports state that heavy casualties were inflicted by air attack on the enemy when they captured Monastir, the principal objective being a column of German tanks and armoured vehicles. Greek fighters are co-operating with the R.A.F. in non-stop patrols. According to a German report, the Yugoslavs are retreating from the Nish area towards the mountains. Hungary has joined in the Axis attack on Yugoslavia and troops are marching into Yugoslavia to occupy a triangular area of territory north-west of Belgrade. Hungary has recognised the Puppet Croat State set up by the Germans.
