Mr Robert Wilson has been appointed assistant-secretary to the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. Gunner H. K. Smith, Artillery Training Regiment, Papakura, who is well known in Masterton, has undergone an operation at the Auckland Public Hospital and his condition is reported to be satisfactory. The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, Prime Minister, and the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. Minister of Industries and Commerce, have consented to act as patrons of the New Zealand Industries Fair in Christchurch this year.
Messrs T, Slade, C. E. Jones and E. L. Beeson (workers' representatives), and W. Cassels Brown. G. R. Arkinstall, and M. W. Wright (employers' representatives), and Mr . J. A. Gilmour, S.M. (chairman), have been appointed an emergency disputes committee for the purposes of the Strike and Lock-out Emergency Regulations. 1939.
The Mahunga Golf Club friends of Misses I. Rudd and F. Polson gathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs D. Hunn. Bunny Street, this week to farewell the guests of the evening, prior to their approaching marriage. On behalf ol the gathering, Mr 1. I. McGregor presented Miss Rudd with a set of fish knives and forks, and Miss Polson with a framed picture. In doing so, he expressed best wishes for their future, and said he was sorry that they would be both leaving the district, and consequently would be lost as members of the Mahunga Golf Club. The recipients spoke in acknowledgment of the gifts and good wishes. Mr and Mrs Hunn were thanked for making the gathering possible in their home. A very popular I'at stock buyer ol' the Feilding district in the person of Mr Joseph Mulvaney, of Kawa Kawa Road, died, following a brief illness, in the Feilding private hospital on Wednesday. On the outbreak of the Great Wai- he served with the Third Batalion of the Rifle Brigade and was severely wounded during the battle ol the Somme in 1916. being invalided home. His war injuries kept him lor some two years a hospital patient. Some 15 or 16 years ago he joined the Meat Export Co as fat stock buyer in the Feilding district. In addition to his wife and children, the late Mr Mulvaney leaves two brothers. Messrs John Mulvaney, of IVlasterlon, and Michael, of Martinborough, and Iwo sisters. Mcsdames R. Stratford, of Waipukurau and D. Flynn, of Marlinborough. .Another brother. Thomas, paid the supreme sacrifice in the Great War.
