BOWLING

MASTERTON CLUB. CHAMPION FOURS DECIDED. (Notes by "The Bowler.") On Tuesday afternoon, the final game for the Club’s champion fours was played between F. Davey, A. Hendry, L. Hughes and E. W. Nielson (s) and J. Hunter, D. Thomson, W. Hendry and W. Christian Is). The result was a win for Christian's team by a substantial margin. On account of indisposition, Davey and Nielsen were unable to take part in the game and substitutes had to be found. The bowling generally of both teams was excellent and many fine heads were played. The green .was in good order. Details of the match are as follow: — On the sth head, the' 'scores were, Christian 5, Nielsen 3, and on the 9th head Christian increased this lead to 4 points. There was a difference of only 2 points on the 12th head, but on the 15th head Christian had a lead of 7 points, the score beard showing Christian 18, Nielsen 11. On the 17th head, Christian was 6 up, and the game concluded on the 20th head when the scores were, Christian 25, Nielsen 13. I congratulate Christian’s team on their win, and Nielsen’s team must also be congratulated on being the runnersup, as they have played many fine games to occupy that position. I must now single out W. Christian on his record performance as an outstanding playing member of the Masterton Club. He has won the champion singles, the champion pairs with D. Thomson, and now has skipped the winning team in the champion fours. In addition to these he succeeded in winning the singles in the Wairarapa champion of champions. Many congratulations “Bill,” and I think, I am safe in saying, that no member of any bowling club in the Dominion has put up such a fine performance in club championships.
