MAN ORDERED FORTNIGHT IN GAOL. FOR SYPHONING PETROL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. Richard Thomas Carroll, a labourer, aged 43, took his wife and two children to the city in a large ear last night. Ho parked his car, produced a tin and tube and started syphoning petrol from a nearby car. A detective saw him when lie had obtained a gallon and a half, and as a result Carroll today was sentenced to a fortnight in gaol.
