THE DAIRY INDUSTRY
GOVERNMENT POLICY. IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENTS EXPECTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAMILTON, April 7. Important announcements regarding the dairy industry are expected to be made on behalf of the Government at a meeting of the Dairy Board on Wednesday, according to a statement by the Director-General of Agriculture, Dr A. H. Cockayne, at the annual meeting of the South Auckland Dairy Association. Dr. Cockayne was present at the meeting by invitation, and it is reported. gave members a good deal of confidential information as to the dairy produce export situation. After Dr. Cockayne had retired the association expressed appreciation of the clear statements made by him. A long discussion in committee took place on the subject of advance payments for butterfat supplied during March. The following motion was carried: —■ “That as there is at present no arrangement with the Government for purchase before shipment, or advance against dairy produce in store, add, owing to the obscure position in regard to future shipments and the possibility of restrictions in the quantity of butter which may be exported, this assocation recommends that the advance payment for butterfat supplied during March be Is a lb. for finest for butter manufacture and Is lid for cheese supply-" It was decided to make no recommendation respecting April and May supply, as it was expected that the Government's statement to the Dairy Board in Wellington on Wednesday would have an effect on the situation. ’ 1 z 1
