MAURICEVILLE
- MEETING OF COUNTY COUNCIL GOOD COLLECTION OF RATES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held yesterday. Mr E. W. Cheetham presided. There were also present Councillors A. Forsberg, D. Bennett. A. Gray, T. H. MacDonald and O. Welch. A financial report showed a credit balance of £923 13s 7d. Accounts for £433. 16s Id were passed. The clerk reported that 95.5 per cent of the rates for the past year had been received. ft was decided to close against heavy traffic exceeding three tons, from May 1 to September 30 the same roads as were closed last year. The sanction of the Local Government Loans Board was received for the raising of the requisite loan for the construction of Brooke’s Bridge and the chairman reported that he had called tenders for the work to close on April 10. His action was endorsed and he and Councillor Bennett were authorised to select a tender subject to the approval of the Public Works Department. Two tenders were received for the tenancy of the residence formerly occupied by T. Palmer's Estate and it was decided to accept the tender of | Mr A. D. Hansen. The Mauriceville School Committee drew attention to the condition of the drain in front of the school. The drain was inspected and it wa.s decided to take necessary steps. The chairman reported that he had instructed the engineers to prepare plans for repairs to the Wangaehu swing bridge. His action was approved. Councillor Forsberg was authorised to apply for a first aid outfit for Hastwell in connection with the E.P.S. scheme.
