ITALIAN, GRATITUDE

PROTECTION OF WOMEN & CHILDREN. DUKE OF AOSTA'S MESSAGE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 6. A '/7ar Office communique issued shortly after the entry into Addis Ababa throws into prominence a problem which for some time has been the concern of the British Government and the Middle East Command—the problem of Italian women and children in Abyssinia. The communique states that the following message was given verbally to Lieutenant-General Cunningham by an Italian envoy before the British entry into the capital: "The Duke of Aosta wishes to express appreciation of the initiative taken by General Wavell and Lieutenant-General Cunningham regarding the protection of women and children in Addis Ababa, demonstrating the strong bond of humanity still existing between the nations.”
