Heavy fighting is reported to be taking place m the Struma Valley along which the Germans are making their main thrust into Greece, states the 8.8. C. The Greek forces are reported to be holding their positions everywhere. Greek troops are taking up new positions, marching to the front singing patriotic songs amid scenes of the greatest enthusiasm. A pontoon bridge across the Danube is reported to have been destroyed by direct hits by bombs. Bridge building material stored in the vicinity is stated also to have been destroyed. The first indication that Yugoslavia was at war was given at 3.30 a.m. on Sunday morning, when air raid sirens sounded in Belgrade. Soon afterwards planes were flying over the city and the radio station went off the air and no infol mation has since been received from the Yugoslav capital. According to a radio broadcast from Ankara, the Germans are using considerable forces against Yugoslavia. It is believed that the Yugoslavian General Staff has taken measures to forestall the German move to divide the Yugoslav army into two parts. The Greek army, states Ankara, was fighting all day yesterday against the Germans and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy in the Struma Valley. It was not until yesterday afternoon that the Italians made up their minds to follow the German lead, using excuses similar to those adopted by the Germans. A Greek communique states that on the eastern front, Greek advanced forces are everywhere holding their positions.
