i May be a Real Stayer, The Hastings Hack Cup winner. Katesbridge, is a filly likely to go on to better things, as she shows every sign of being a real stayer. She was responsible for winning form in the Poverty Bay district, where she was bred, before joining J. M. Cameron's stable, from which she was having her first starts last week. Katesbridge is the first foal of her dam, and is by the successful Foxtvidge from Veloce. by Hunting Song—Oppidan, by The Rand—Etona, by Castor—Lady Walmsley, by' Musket —Mersey. Broughton’s Mounts. W. Broughton has been offered the ride on Royal Chief in the C.J.C. Great Autumn Handicap, but he will most likely remain on Happy Ending. The latter’s trip, however, is not absolutely certain, though probable. Broughton will be on Circular Note in the Great Easter Handicap. Serenata. It is reported that Serenata will race at Auckland and Avondale in preference to Riccarton. The New Zealand Cup winner has always raced well at Ellerslie. The Idalia Taproot. Since going into F. Vought's stable Southern Sail has run three firsts, a second and a fourth in five starts. It would not create any surprise if her dam, Set Sail, produced good winners as she was a good performer in her racing days. Set Sail is well enough bred to produce a champion and might do so if she nicked with a sire. Set Sail was got by Solferino—Strathpeffer, by Birkenhead—ldyal, by Dreadnought—Mount Ida, by Apremont—• Idalia. The Idalia taproot has produced some of the best ever raced in New Zealand, notably Sir Modred, who won the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes, Dunedin Champagne Stakes, New Zealand Derby, Canterbury Cup, Dunedin Cup. Timaru Cup and A.J.C. Metropolitan Handicap. He was sold at 2000 guineas to go to America, where he proved a great stud success. Betrayer. Cheviot, Idalium July, Fair Nell (dam of Saracen, Loyalty (Challenge Stakes, G.N. Derby, etc), Bonny Scotland (A.J.C. Derby), Enid, Ich Dieu, Bellicent, Bonny Glen, • Isolt, Liverpool, Ravenswing, St Michael (Auckland Cup), Sir Lancelot. Ideal (dead-heat New Zealand Cup), Grand Slam and other notable performers belong to the Idalia tribe. Set Sail was foaled in 1921 and is getting beyond the age of usefulness, but some of her daughters may produce something of the same racing calibre as Idalia’s best, who won recognition in New Zealand, Australia and America. Traducer was a production of the Herod line and, linked with Idalia, produced Sir Modred. Other nicks were successful with the family and a suitable sire might result in another champion.
