The trend of the market at Feilding today was slightly better than last week, though business was far from being good. Cattle sold a little more freely as did also better quality lambs. Quotations are:— Fat sheep: All mutton remained at . late rates with a not very extensive supply. Extra prime lambs, 21s Id; . prime, 19s Id. 19s 4d; unfinished. 15s 4d. i 17s lOd; prime ewes. 10s lOd, Ils 7d: lighter, 9s, 10s Gd; plain. 6s 7cl. 8s 3d; extra prime wethers. 24s 7d, 25s 7d: prime, 23s Id, 23s lOd; light, 21s lOd. Sheep: There was nothing outstanding offering in the way of two-tooths. ewes and adult sheep. Good lambs sold well. Best wether lambs, 16s. 17s 2d: smaller, 12s 9d. 14s; inferior, 8s 6d, 12s 6d; good b.f., 14s Id. 15s 8d; others. 10s lOd, 13s 9d; ewe lambs, good. 245; small. 13s fid, 15s Id; culls, 6s fid. 10s 7d; two-tooth wethers, 18s; small twotooth ewes, 235; plain. 14s; 4 and 5-yr. ewes, best, 12s 4d, 13s 7d; others, 6s Bd. 10s lOd; mixed ewes, Ils 6d. Cattle; Beef was an improvement in quality for station stock, but prices were backward on recent rates. Weaners, small, 4s 6d; slips, 13s fid, 17s 6d; stores, 24s 6d. 265. CARTERTON SALE SHEEP MAKE GOOD VALUES. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report; There was a fair yarding at Carterton yesterday. Sheep made good values, especially lambs in condition. Fats sold well. Only a small entry of cattle came forward. Cows on the drop and dairy heifers made late values. Pigs sold well. The following are particulars:— Sheep: Fat wethers, 19s 9d to 225; light fat wethers, to 17s; fat lambs, 22s to 23s 4d; fat ewes, Ils to 14s; shorn ewe lambs, to 16s Id; woolly ewe lambs. 15s 9d to 19s 8d: shorn wether lambs, 15s to 17s Cd; b.f. lambs. Ills 7d to 18s 8d; small wether lambs, to 8s; small b.f. lambs. 9s 9d. 9s lOd to 10s 6d; medium wether lambs. 12s 9d to 13s 3d; medium shorn wether lambs, to 13s 9d; medium b.f. lambs. 14s fid to 14s 9d: 2-th. wethers, to 15s fid; s.m. ewes. EKETAHUNA SALE LATE RATES REALISED. Messrs. Dalgety and Co.. Ltd., report on their Eketahuna sale held on Thursday, as follows; —A small entry of sheep came forward and were offered to a large attendance of buyers. Competition was good and all stock macle rates well up to those ruling of late. Mixed age ewes r.w. S.D., 18s; woolly wether-lambs, 13s 6d to 14s 3d; medium b.f. lambs, 13s 9d; cull ewes 4s 7d. We also offered several lines of sheep which came forward through the Eketahuna committee organisation of a stock drive. These sheep sold under spirited bidding and made prices in advance of those ruling of late. During the sale we also offered a Union Jack, the proceeds of which were to go to the Eketahuna district fund for the mobile canteen. Theer was a good response to this appeal’and bids ranged from 10s Gel to 5 guineas, and at the conclusion of the auction the sum of approximately £35 was realised.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., report on their weekly sale held at Eketahuna as follows: —There was a fair entry of sheep including a number that were donated by the local farms for the local Patriotic Fund. A large number of implements and sundries were also offered and sold al late rates. The following were the chief prices obtained at auction:—Sheep: Shorn ewe lambs, 17s fid: small do., 8s; b.f. lambs. Sis 3d. Ills, to Ils 7d; woolly wether lambs. Ils 9d to 12s fid; small lambs, .'is Id. (is 3d. io 7s; Southdown rams. 2gns.: Romney rams. Ign.: fat wethers. 18s fid. 19s to 20s 6ci: fat ewes. His to Ils: fat iambs. 17s 6d to 19s.
