WELFARE LEAGUE

MONTHLY MEETING IN MASTERTON. The monthly meeting of the Women's National Welfare League was held at the Midland Hotel yesterday afternoon. Those present were: Miss Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames T. Jordan, H. E. Pither, T. F. Watson, H. C. Toogood, L. Hunter, A. W. McKenzie, F. Daniell. S. J. Munn. W Andrew, H. P. Glen, J. Caselberg, S. M. Kilgour and Miss Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames S. L. P. Free, F. Reynolds, H. P. Harrison, R. C. Drummond, S. Fletcher, G. H. Collie, E. J. Coiema" R. Whyborn, Misses Beiliss, M. and C. Cameron. After opening the meeting Miss Kummer asked members to stand for two minutes as a mark of respect ic the memory of Flight Lieutenant F. Long, of Masterton, which was done. A letter was received from the secretary of the A.N.A. Club, Wellington, asking the League to help in an} way with comforts for the men. A number of donations were received ir. the room and absent members are asked to communicate with Miss Kummei who will take delivery and pack donations to Wellington. Mrs McKenzie reported on the social welfare work. Clothing was needed badly. During the month, fish, milk and clothing had been distributed to various persons. Mrs Pither reported having visited all South Wairarapa blind persons. Those in the North Wairarapa wjlilc be visited during' the coming week. Orders for various goods were sent to Auckland during March. It was decided to visit the Buchanan Homo, subject to the Matron’s approval, on April 22. Cars will be provided by Mesdames Pither, McKenzie. Daniell and Miss Kummer. Mrs S. J Munn and Miss Kummer are to confer in regard to the entertainment part of the programme for that day. The hospital report stated that two visits were paid to the hospital during March, flowers, cakes, and literaturehaving been distributed as were the usual teas to the No. 6 ward. It was decided that Miss Beiliss arrange for visitors lor April. Arrangements were made for a wreath to be placed on the Cenotaph on Anzac Day. The annual meeting will be held on May 2 and nominations for the officers for the ensuing year must be in the hands of the secretary by April 18.
