EKETAHUNA

GOLF CLUB OPENING OF SEASON. (“Times-Age" Special.) The Eketahuna Golf Club will open the season on Sunday at 1.30 p.m. Members of district clubs are invited to be present. A mixed Canadian foursome will be played and partners are to be arranged at the clubhouse. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE HUKANUI ANNUAL MEETING. The tenth annual meeting of the Hukanui Women's Institute was held recently, there being about 25 members present. Votes of thanks were passed to the president and the retiring secretary, Mrs Guy Udy. and also to Mr Parker for his services as auditor. Mrs/L. Wenham was re-elected president and Mrs Cuthbert elected secretary. The competitions resulted as follow:—Scones: Mrs Rasmussen 1, Mrs Goodin 2. Miss Z. Udy 3. Best bloom: Mrs Goodin. 1, Miss Twentyman 2, Mrs Harrington, Mrs Rasmussen and Miss M. Dougherty (equal) 3. Mrs Goodin donated a dressed fowl for the Patriotic Funds. It was won by Mrs C. Udy. The Institute’s birthday dance was held in the Hukanui Hall. Visitors from many neighbouring institutes helped to swell the numbers present. Excellent music was provided by the Rhythm Boys, and the pianist entertained the crowd further by some musical monologues. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr E. Webb and Miss Noeline Cavanagh. Mr Des. a Udy and Miss Nielson won the Gay Gordons dance competition'. The ladies of the Institute provided supper. Navy League Membership. A Union Jack is to be presented to the Putara State School, near Eketahuna, which has enrolled all its scholars as members of the Navy League.
