COMMITTEE MEETS
RECOGNITION OF GOVERNMENT SOUGHT. LIST OF TRUCKS COMPILED. A meeting of the Wairarapa Emergency Transport Committee was held in Masterton last night. Mr T. L. Pearson presided over a good attendance. Several apologies for absence were received. Mr J. C. D. Mackley (representing the Masterton E.P.S.) and Mr R. H. Williams (Farmers’ Union) brought up the question of whether the committee was officially recognised by the Government. A resolution that the Government’s recognition be'obtained was passed. A complete list of trucks registered in the district was submitted. It showed that there were 1890 trucks in the Wairarapa. A list of trucks suitable for impressment was compiled and will be submitted to the Army Department. In making up the list the committee made every endeavour to ensure that trucks essential to the owners business were not included. It was decided that representations be made to make Masterton a truck impressment centre. In the Central Military district 417 motor cycles. 71 cars, 224 15cwt.. trucks and 571 1-3 ton trucks were required. The Wairarapa was expected, to supply 70 trucks towards that end-
