Jack had broken off with his girl. After ignoring several letters requesting the return of her photograph, he received one, threatening to report the matter to his superior officer. Deciding to silence hex- fox- all time, he borrowed all the pictures of girls available and sent them in a bundle with a note attached: “Pick out yours. I’ve forgotten what you look like.”
