FAMOUS CLUB

DESTROYED BY FIRE IN LONDON BLAZE NOT DUE TO ENEMY ACTION. AIR FORCE OFFICER KILLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.3 a.m.) LONDON, March 31. The famous Bath Club in Piccadilly has been destroyed by fire, not due to enemy action. Only the walls remain. The fire blazed furiously for hours and destroyed valuable pictures and furnishings. There were only a dozen guests, and all expect one, a R.A.F. Flight-Lieutenant, escaped. The airman was presumably suffocated by smoke in his bedroom. The Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose learnt swimming at the Club and won a competition in 1939, when the Queen presented the prizes. The King and his brothers also had swimming lessons at the club.
