The forty-first birthday of the Duke of Gloucester, third son of King George V. and Queen Mary, falls today. The Duke, who toured New Zealand at the end of 1934 and the beginning of 1935, married Lady Alice Montagu-Douglas-Scott, daughter of the Duke of Buccleuch, on November 6, 1935.
The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser. Prime Minister, returned to Wellington last night from New Plymouth.
Mr G. Robertson, of Havelock North, is a visitor to Masterton. Mr Robertson is a former resident of the town. The Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, left Wellington last night tor the South Island. He will return to Wellington on Saturday.
The death has occurred in Gisborne of Mr Alexander Bryan, who was well known for the part he played in rebuilding operations in Napier after the .1931 earthquake. He was 60 years of age. Mr Bryan went to Napier immediately after the earthquake from Christchurch and he was engaged in the erection of a number of buildings. When the State housing scheme was started in Napier he secured a number of contracts.
