CHAMPION RINK CONTEST. WON BY GREYTOWN CLUB. ("Times-Age" Special. ( The final game for the Wairarapa Bowling Centre's champion rink competition was decided on the Carterton green on Saturday and ended in a win for the Greytown players by one point. At the conclusion of the match the winners were congratulated on their play. It is many years since Greytown were successful in a centre rink championship. Mr. W. F. Stent supervised the game throughout, but his services were not called upon to umpire in a single head played. The game was played in a very sporting spirit throughout. Both teams played excellent bowls. The result was: Kiernan. Bupny, Kilgour, McLeod (s) (Greytown), 21; Hutana, Robinson. McNamara. Higginson (s) (Featherston). 20. MASTERTON PARK CLUB COMPETITION GAMES. Several interesting games have been played recently on the Park green, the results of which are as follow: — Centre fours: Curtis. Burden. McLeod, Higgison (s) Greytown defeated Carr, Braggins, H. Smith. Shearer (s.) Park, 21 'l4. McEwen Feathers: ’ The holders. Moore and Osborn (s) beat the challegers, E. Brown and Shearer (s), 27'22.
Crafts Medals: The challengers, Simpson. Newton, Vincent and Shearer (s) representing the Iron and Steel Workers defeated the holders, Taylor, Ferguson, Burke. Kilgour (s) representing the Post and Telegraph Department, 23/20. Spackman Cup: Andrews beat Moore, 16/14. In the final game Brown beat Moore 25/18 and therefore, holds the trophy for 1940-41 season. Thompson Cup; Wallace beat Carr, 20/16; Brownie beat Taylor, 21/16. In the semi-final played on Saturday, H. Smith with his last bowl beat Brownie 20/19, but in the final succumbed to R. Wallace 18/23. In games for the Grady Medals and Wall Cup (colts fours) 'challengers from Masterton defeated the Park holders. For the Kelly Cup (colts) Daysh and McCarthy (s) Carterton, wrested the trophy from O’Donnell and Moore (s) Park. 30/11. KEAN TROPHY PARK CLUB SUCCESSFUL. CONTEST AT LYALL BAY. The return match for the Kean Trophy was played at the weekend at Lyall Bay between the Park and Lyall Bay teams. The Featherston Bowling Club was unable to take part and the contest was held between the other two clubs, each represented by six rinks. Twelve games were played, of which .Park won nine and took the coveted trophy home. The weather' conditions were ideal and the well-known hospitality of the hosts was well up to their usual standard, making the occasion a most pleasant one. At the close of play, Mr. Faulknor, president of the Lyall Bay Cluff in handing over the trophy congratulated the winners and expressed regret-at the inability of the Featherston Club to be present on this occasion but hoped all three clubs would meet early next season and under better world conditions. Mr. Wallace, president of the Park Club, thanked Mr. Faulknor and members for their kind reception and entertainment and expressed his pride at his club's success on the day and said he would look forward to their next competition for the coveted trophy. MASTERTON CLUB FOURS COMPETITION GAMES. VISITORS FROM EKETAHUNA. A WIN FOR MASTERTON. Six rinks from the Eketahuha Bowling Club made a return visit to the Masterton Club during the week-end. The Masterton Club's greens and surroundings were in perfect condition, and the weather for the week-end made the outing a very enjoyable one. The Eketahuna players were most interested in the work which is being carried out on the No. 1 green, as they are contemplating similar work during the autumn.
