AUSTRALIAN RACING
ROSEHILL MEETING BEAU VITE WINS STAKES. HIGH CASTE BEATEN. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, March 30. Beau Vite made an auspicious reappearance in public at Rosehill on Saturday, winning the Rawson Stakes against hot company in a manner that again revealed his high class and great popularity with Sydney racegoers, who cheered him to the echo. His owner, Mr. Ralph Stewart, was delighted, and is of the opinion that he should win all the weight-for-age races ahead. Though Saturday's race was not a real test of his ability, the first three furlongs being run at a crawling pace in 41, the last six were traversed in the brilliant time of 1.111. Gold Salute established a good lead which he maintained till well down the straight, where High Caste drew level and looked like a winner. But Beau Vite, with his usual dogged finish, sprinted from behind and overhauled High Caste to win going away by a length. ■ McMenamin, who rode Beau Vite, said immediatedly after the race: “Beau Vite is not the champion of last year. He did not pick up his speed nearly as quickly, and though the race was run to suit him, I didn't think he had a chance of winning until the last bit, when Gold Salute and High Caste tired.” McMenamin expressed the opinion that the Sydney Cup would have been a sitter for him if he had.l been entered. Mr. Stewart disagreed with McMenamin, and said Beau Vite would show at Easter that he was greater than ever. Proud Fox, who made his debut in the Three and Four-year-old Handicap, won by Haridelle, shaped poorly and finished last. Nightbeam finished sixth in the Parramatta Mile, won by John Dory. Chief results are: — \ Rawson Stakes. —Beau Vite, 9.0 (McMenamin). 1; High Caste. 9.0 (Bartie), 2; Gold Salute, 8.11 (Shean), 3. All seven started. Orfe length; threequarters. Neck; one length and a half. Fearless was fourth. Time. 1.24:;.
