CARTERTON

PLUNKET SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Yesterday the committee of the Carterton Plunket Society held a very successful shop day in aid of its fuijds. The ladies, headed by their president, Mrs W. J. C. Wells, and secretary, Mrs H. M. Trapp, worked hard for the success of the effort. At the close of the activities the sum of £25 Ils had been realised, £5 of which was obtained from a copper trail. The dinner was won by Mr G. Stark, of Kent Street. BOWLING DELACEY BUTTONS. A game for the DeLacey Buttons was played on the Carterton green last evening, when the holders retained the trophies after a close contest. The result was a follows:—G. W. Harti (substitute for Harris) and DeLacey (s) 'beat Larsen and Barber (s) 20/ 9. On the 17th end the score was 17 Ell. On the 18th. head the challengers ;cored two making the totals 19/17. Th? 20th end score was 19 each and on th ? final end the holders scored a point 1 thus winning. METHODIST CHURCH HARVEST THANKSGIVING. The Harvest Thanksgiving services held in the Carterton Methodist Church were well attended. On Monday evening the sale of produce conducted by Mr Mortensen realised nearly £l4. The celebrations in the Dalefield Methodist Church will be held at the weekend. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs B. H. Goodin, of Cambridge, are visiting Carterton. Mr Carl. Larsen, of the Club Hotel, Carterton. who has been managing the business, has taken over a lease of the hotel as from today. Trooper Lex Renall, son of Mr and Mrs H. R. Renall, of Kokatau, who is at Foxton Mounted Rifle Camp, recently had the distinction of heading the list of rifle shots in the camp competitions by a fair margin of points. Trooper Renall attributes his good shooting to the lessons learned with the Carterton Miniature Rifle Club. This young soldier has been awarded a further stripe as an officer.
