MARCH OF TROOPS
THROUGH WELLINGTON STREETS EVIDENCE OF EXCELLENT TRAINING. ENTHUSIASTIC CROWDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. An impressive parade of troops, who showed evidence of excellent training, was held through the main streets of Wellington today, when the salute was taken at the Railway Station by the Governor-General (Sir C. Newall). The men, under the command of Major R. F. Mitchell, M.C., with Captains W. L. Britton, E. A. Porritt, M.C.. and R. Hollis, M.C., as battalion commanders, marched from the station to the centre of the city and returned by another route. The mile and a half traversed was lined with enthusiastic crowds, who threw confetti and paper streamers. Included amongst those at the saluting base were the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) and Cabinet Ministers. Legislative Councillors, representatives of Britain and Canada and of the three Services, the Bishop of Wellington (the Rt Rev H. St B. Holland) and Monsignor Connolly, the Chief Justice (Sir M. Myers), the Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop), the president of the New Zealand R.S.A. (the Hon W. Perry). Consuls and trade representatives.
