SUDDEN STROKE
BY BRITISH SUBMARINE IN MEDITERRANEAN TWO ITALIAN STEAMERS TORPEDOED. ESCORT VESSELS ELUDED. A British submarine has scored an important success in the Mediterranean, states the 8.8. C. It attacked an escorted Italian convoy to the south of Italy. A supply » ship or troopship of 6,000 tons and a tanker of 10,000 tons were hit by torpedoes. The ships were not seen to sink, as the submarine had to avoid the escort vessels, but the sound of the ships’ engines ceased abruptly. The submarine responsible for this exploit was the Parthian.
