ST. ANDREW SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING LAST NIGHT. FIRST GATHERING OF YEAR ON MAY 3. The annual meeting of the St. Andrew Society was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last night. The Chief Mr H. Mackenzie Douglas, presided over a good attendance of members. Several apologues for absence were received. Prior to the commencement of business those present stood in silence as a mark of respect to ,the late Miss I. Munro, and Messrs Robert Miller and Macßae. In speaking to the annual report the chairman drew attention to the fact that the credit balance was considerably less than that for last year but the difference was more than made up by assets the society had acquired. He referred to the cohesion that had existed between himself and the council. Mr Douglas expressed his appreciation of the assistance the society had received during the year from Mesdames Allen, Bell, MacDonald, Chief’s Piper T. Pickett and the Chief's Piper T. Pickett and the “Times-Age.” The hon. auditor, Mr Robert Milne, was thanked for his services. Several members of the Society who have departed for overseas military service were elected honorary members. In addition several child evacuees were elected to honorary membership. The. election of officers resulted as follows:—-Patron, Mr Hugh Morrison; Chief, Mr H. Mackenzie Douglas; Chieftain, Mr P. McLean; Chieftainess, Mrs Robert Miller: hon. treasurer, Mr p. G. Ramsay; council, Messrs J. Allan, A. Cruickshank, G. C. L. Dickel J. Y. Douglas, Wm. C. Mann. J MacDonald. W. Ireland. M. C. Walker. It was decided to hold the first gathering of the season in the Masonic Hall on May 3.

PIPE BAND. BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the St. Andrew Pipe Band was also held. Pipe-Major J. Hounslow presided. Three new members were elected. Means of equipping (he band with uniforms were discussed. It was considered that the present time was not opportune to approach (he public, and it was decided to defer action until more favourable circumstances existed.
