GERMAN SHIPS
LIKELY TO BE SEIZED IN MEXICO. FOR WESTERN HEMISPHERE TRADE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day. 9.35 a.m.) MEXICO CITY. March 21. The newspaper “Excelsior” said today: “There is reliable information that the President Camachos Government intends to appropriate 12 German and Italian ships, now tied up in Mexican ports. The vessels would be commandeered for the duration of the war, and the Government would seek an understanding with the shipowners regarding compensation. The ships would be incorporated into a national merchant marine for Western Hemisphere trade.”
