PATRIOTIC CARNIVAL
QUEEN CAMPAIGN THE AIR FORCE CANDIDATE. FINAL EFFORT TONIGHT. This evening in the Municipal Hall the final effort of the Air Force Queen Committee in the patriotic campaign will be staged. A splendid opportunity will be presented to householders to secure their week-end supplies of meat, poultry, vegetables and cakes, at "final effort" prices. The meat is “farmer killed" and comprises prime lamb and wether mutton. All the stalls will be packed and prospective buyers are advised to be early to secure the first choice. The Air Force committee has made special prevision for a,"concert hall” above their stalls and performances will be presented at frequent intervals.
NAVY=NURSING SERVICES
RESCUE OF QUEEN EFFECTED. The Navy has secured another laurel by having rescued the Queen (Miss Barbara Barton) from the raider. The rescue was made by H.M.S. School.' (Captain Berry) and H.M.S. Tinui (Captain Miles), both of whom are guarding the Queen as she is being convoyed home. The latest communique says that the Queen should be home in time to take part in festivities in the Municipal Hall tonight'. The nurses will conduct a campaign tonight in an effort to re-sell their patriotic flag purchased recently at the auction. They will be in Queen Street if fine, and at the Municipal Hall if wet. The committee, appeals to all supporters of Miss Barbara Barton and Miss Audrey Burling to be "on deck” tonight to give their support to the Navy-Nursing Service Queen during the last few hours of a memorable campaign. The Wairarapa Donkey Derby will be held tonight from the Lansdowne School to the Town Hall, and this event should create much interest. FINAL SCENES ARRANGEMENTS FOR TONIGHT. The Masterton Queen Carnival campaign will conclude in the Town Hall at 10 o’clock tonight. Considerable interest in the outcome has been taken by the public during the past weeks, and there is much speculation as to which Queen will head the voting list. The hall doors will open at 7 o’clock, and games and competitions have been organised by the three Queen Committees to provide the public with all kinds of entertainment. The public will be kept informed of the positions of the candidates every fifteen minutes. At the conclusion of the voting the winning Queen and the other contestants will be presented. Supper will be provided for helpers only, and will not be available to the public. '
