MADE IN ATTACK ON KEREN
Italians Suffer Heavy Losses PROGRESS IN OTHER AFRICAN AREAS MUCH SUCCESSFUL AIR RAIDING A fierce battle is raging round Keren, states the 8.8. C. The British forces are making steady headway in spite of heavy enemy counter-attacks, in which the Italian casualties were particularly severe. The R.A.F. dive-bombed and machine-gunned enemy positions and attacked enemy motor transport between Keren and Asmara. Asmara has also been heavily raided, the telegraph office, Fiat works and railway station having been bombed. Severe damage was also done to an enemy aerodrome in Eastern Abyssinia. In Southern Abyssinia the British advance continues along the road to Harar towards the Addis Ababa railway. The -• British forces are in contact with the enemy in difficult country eight miles west of Jijiga. Two other columns are advancing into Abyssinia from Kenya. Bombers of the R.A.F, attacked a number of enemy aerodromes in the Tripoli area, where fires and explosions occurred among aircraft on the ground. Tripoli itself was heavily raided and bombs dropped among shipping. Several large fires were observed.
