FIRE EMERGENCY
ENROLMENT OF AUXILIARY MEN APPEAL BY SUPERINTENDENT. NO CO-OPERATION WITH E.P.S. “The Masterton Fire Brigade requires twenty men for the Emergency Fire Service, which has been authorised by the Government,” said the Superintendent, Mr T. B. Clark, this morning. Mr Clark was asked if any response had been made, following the publication of details of the scheme a few days ago. “Only one inquiry has been made,” replied Mr Clark. “It is desirable that the organisation should be set up with- /’ out delay. Those intending to join * are asked to do so immediately. It ’ must be remembered that the men wanted are those not eligible for overseas service and that payment is made for all parades attended. Applications must be made to me in person and all details will be given to applicants. I hope a generous response will be made to this appeal, so that tfie necessary organisation to deal with an emergency can be set up.” “What is the position locally regarding the E.P.S. auxiliary fire corps?” Mr Clark was asked. “A lack of co-operation is apparent in Masterton,” replied Mr Clark. “I understand there are a number of men enrolled in the E.P.S. fire auxiliary corps. As Superintendent of the Masterton Brigade, it is my responsibility to see that these men receive instruction required to meet an emergency but so far no members of the corps have been detailed for emergency fire training.”
