FACTORIES CLOSING

FOR DURATION OF WAR. CONCENTRATION POLICY IN BRITAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 1.20 p.m.) LONDON, March 19. Some 3000 factories throughout Britain are closing within a month, under the Government scheme for the concentration of industry. They will be placed/in‘‘cold storage”for the duration of the war, but their machinery and equipment will be maintained in good condition to enable a resumption of production as soon as possible after the war. The new system is being based on a "nucleus" firm. Three to four firms in one industry are to decide which shall form the nucleus and agree as to what compensation is payable to firms closed down. The nucleus firm must fulfil all export and Government orders for the whole group.
