DELIBERATE MURDER
NAZI U?BOAT ATTACK ON ICELANDIC FISHING CRAFT. CAPTAIN AND OTHERS KILLED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. March 18. A German submarine attack shortly before dawn on March 11 on the small Icelandic fishing-boat Frothe (170 tons) has aroused intense indignation in Iceland. The conduct of the submarine’s crew is branded as 1 murderous by the newspaper “Althydulad.” A shell blew away and killed the mate and two seamen were killed by machine-gun. fire. The captain and his brother attempted to lower a lifeboat but a machine-gun cut the boat to pieces and mortally wounded both. The attack lasted nearly an hour. The submarine then sailed off. leaving only five of the crew unwounded. The captain regained consciousness long enough to give sailing orders, but died before reaching port. The “Manchester Guardian,” in a leading article, said: "What will our liberty amount to if the World is to be governed by the spirit that held the trigger while the Frothe’s crew was killed?”
