LABOUR PARTY

MASTERTON BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING. CONFIDENCE IN MR. ROBERTSON. There was a large and enthusiastic attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Masterton Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, which was held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms. The president, in his report made a" comprehensive survey of the party’s work during the past twelve months, with particular reference to the Easter Conference and the special conference in June, at which the party asked for and was given a mandate in regard to certain policies in the carrying out of the Government’s war effort. A tribute was paid to the late Mr. Alex Newman, who, as an executive member of the branch and a delegate on the Masterton Labour Representation Committee, had rendered yeoman service to the Labour movement. What was considered to be one of the strongest executive committees that the Labour Party has had in Masterton for several years was elected, The fact, it. was stated, that the Labour member, Mr. J. Robertson, had been the unanimous choice of every affiliation to the Masterton Labour Representation Committee showed that his efforts on behalf of the electorate were greatly appreciated by all sections of the Labour Party. Members felt that when the election came round Labour would have no trouble in retaining the seat.
