HERD TESTING
A PHENOMENAL RETURN. In the Friesian G.O.H.T. returns for January. Mr R. H. Dickie’s pedigree cow Lauderdale Princess Meta had the phenomenal return of 2173.11 b milk, 117.341 b fat, easily the highest monthly yield of butterfat recorded under the Government O.H.T. Her yield for her first 70 days on test is 242.2G1b of butterfat, an average daily yield of 3.461 b fat. Another high producer for January in the same herd is Lauderdale Princess Maria (Rosevale Prince Echo Roberts —Lauderdale Sylvia Mercedes, G.O.H.T. 3481 b fat junior 2 yr) with 2129.71 b milk, 97.961 b fat. This cow last year completed a C.O.R. test with G4olb fat twice-a-day milking. Koromiko Ormsby Starlight owned by M. J. Parker of Dalefield comes next with 17941 b milk. 95.081 b butterfat. This cow as a 4-yr-old produced last year under C.O.RT 81Glb fat. Turepo R. L. Fobes. 20771 b milk. 85.151 b fat. is the highest of the 4-year-olds. She is owned by C. A. Knutson of Dalefield. * The top 30 cows under Govt, herd test in January average 67.121 b butterfat. Some of the best returns so far for this season are: —Glenhope Queen Echo Jewel, C. W. Humin and Sons, Waikuku (Rangiora), 448.511 b fat in 179 days. Bonovoree 108 th —R. G. McIntosh (Paeroa), 427.341 b fat in 177 days. Livingstone Ormsby Sunbeam— K. H. Eames, Matamau (Dannevirke), 309.321 b fat in 104 days. Lenslea Champion Princess —Allan Bros, ■ Allandale (Christchurch), 406.411 b fat in 180 days. Newark Royal Maid—J. Brown and Sons, Waianiwa (Southland), 197.191 b fat in 76 days, Turepo Topsy Inka —C. A. Knutson (Dalefield), 404.541 b fat in 191 days. Ahikouka Pioneer Olga—C. A. Knutson (Dalefield), 330.301 b fat in 121 days.
