BOWLING

MASTERTON CLUB GAMES. CHAMPION FOURS. (Notes by “The Bowler.”) An interesting game was played yesterday afternoon for the semi-final of the Masterton Bowling Club’s champion fours. The teams were: —F. Davey, L. Dorset. Hughes, E. W. Nielsen (s), and J. Hunter, Thompson, W. Hendry and W. Christian (s.) The result, was a win fox- Nielson’s team, by a margin of three points. The green played well, although it was on the slow side, aftei- the recent rains. Both teams played good bowls, and there were many fine heads. Most singular to relate, there was not one “dead head" during the whole game. The details are as follow: —On the fifth end. the scores were, Nielsen 5. Christian 2, but on the eighth end, the scores were equal, seven all. Nielsen, obtained a lead of foux- points on the 14th end. but this, was increased to nine points, on the next head Nielsen having obtained five points. Christian improved his position, and on the 19th end, the scores were Nielsen 20, Christian 15. On the next two heads Christian scored two singles, and the game concluded with the score board showing Nielsen 20, Christian 17. As both the teams had two lives, they must meet again. If Nielsen wins, he wins the championship, but if he is beaten, then the teams play off again, and the then winners are the champion team.
